Handicraft village
With a long history, Bac Giang is a home to many ethnic populations and has established the traditional handicraft villages with typical cultural features in the areas of Kinh Bac and Red River delta and northern midlands mountains.
Over the past time, in order to diversify business lines, governments at all levels of Bac Giang province has focused on developing cottage industry and rural industries, so many positive results have been achieved.
The province currently has 37 recognized handicraft villages of cottage industry, including 23 traditional ones. The handicraft villages in the province concentrated in some key areas such as rattan and bamboo, agricultural food processing, furniture and art. In these villages, there are 5,775 households and 18,000 workers involved in manufacturing, with average revenue reaching about 1,100 billion per year, the budget of 900 million dong per year.
Many local handicrafts items have been favoured by foreign markets like Japan, Taiwan, China and the EU.
In the recognition of the role, position and importance of the village, in recent years, Bac Giang Province has developed several programs and plans with a view to creating favorable conditions for village development, and paid attention to promoting administrative procedures reform to create an open-door and attractive investment environment; supported vocational training, implemented industry promotion program, trained the governance skills in the agricultural cooperatives; supported brand-building for village’s traditional products. Annually, to carry out review, recognize and honor those typical villages, the skilled workers who have developed these industries for rural development and received a positive response from the community.
In 2012, 15 organizations, 34 individuals and 18 typical products represent businesses, entrepreneurs and skilled workers who can give the job to rural development and rural industrial products have been honored.
In 2014, Bac Giang province held the 3rd ceremony to honor businesses, entrepreneurs, trade villages, artisans, skilled workers and rural industrial products. 24 enterprises, 12 outstanding entrepreneurs, 6 villages, 5 artisans, 4 skilled workers and 18 typical products of rural industry were awarded the title by a provinical council.
Of these, many organizations and prominent individuals received the prestigious award such as Vietnam Gold Star; Strong brand; Enterprise, National Entrepreneur./.
