Khe Ro Natural Reserve in An Lac, Son Dong

Khe Ro Nature Reserve is located in An Lac commune, Son Dong district, 80 km northeast of Bac Giang. Total natural area is 7,153 ha, located in three basins of Khe Rong, Khe Din and Khe Nuoc Vang. This area has an elevated elevation from northeast to southwest, with the highest peak being 650m. The north-east has sloping mountain ranges, the southwest has high terrain, steep slopes, divided complex, with many cliffs standing.

On 05/5/1995, Khe Ro Nature Reserve was established, according to Decision No. 715 QD / UB by People's Committee of Ha Bac province (now Bac Giang province). Subsequently, the Management Unit was established under the Decision No. 137 QD / CT of the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.

Khe Ro Nature Reserve was established to preserve the typical tropical forest ecosystem of North East of Vietnam, preserve rare and precious animal and plant genetic resources, organize scientific research, ecology and economic development of the project area. The total area of ​​the reserve is 7,153 ha, which is planned into three main zones: Strictly protected zones, ecological restoration zones and buffer zones.

The land of the reserve is formed on the sedimentary complex, including the main parent rocks: Sandstone, claystone, conglomerate and ancient silt. The main soil is Feranite formed on rocks, with medium to high humus content and high nutrient content.

Because it is located in a tropical monsoon climate, soil, climate favorable for the forest animals and plants here grow, the population of forest creatures here is rich and diverse.

Khe Ro natural forest is a tropical evergreen forest with two main types: Dense evergreen forest on the low mountain peaks, with 8 plant communities and evergreen broad-leaved lowland evergreen forests, on the slopes of high mountains, with three plant communities and tree species such as: Green shrimps, honey, bamboo groats, pine needles, pine conifers, pine conifers ... are the typical plant species for the Khe Ro Special-Use Forest.

There are 786 plant species in 496 genera and 166 families, which are considered to have a rich diversity of species and plant families. Among these plants, there are 43 species of rare plants listed in the Red Book of Vietnam. The most typical are the trees, such as muntjac, bamboo, conifer, coniferous, syringe, agarwood, sliced ​​flowers, scabies, scallops ... Khe Ro primary forest has been assessed as a place of many species which are the most rare species of North East ò Vietnam.

Forest animals in Khe Ro Nature Reserve are also quite diverse. There are 226 animal species belonging to 81 families, 34 orders, 4 classes, namely:

- Animal classes have 18 sets, 20 families, 51 species;

- The bird has 13 sets, 41 families, 102 species;

- Reptiles have 2 sets, 15 families, 40 species;

- The frogs have 1 set, 5 families, 33 species.

Flora of the reserve is diverse in composition, family, species. It has many values ​​in terms of economics, environmental protection, genetic resources protection. Particularly, there are 16 species of mammals, 5 species of birds, 17 species of reptiles, frogs of rare species, named in the Vietnam Red Book.

With good organization of forest protection at the root and effective implementation of programs for forest regeneration and reforestation, to date, after many years of operation, the Managemen Unit of Khe Ro natural reserve has blocked the status of destroy. Forests have been well managed and protected from the root so the forest area is increasing. Forest animals and plants are well protected and hundreds of species have significant growth. The forest cover is improved, the water balance is balanced and stable, ensuring the supply of water throughout the year for An Lac commune and some neighboring communes through the system of self-flowing rigid canals to serve production. as well as agricultural production of the people in the area.

To now, Khe Ro Nature Reserve has been visited by many tourists inside and outside the province. The landscape here has left a good mark for visitors. In the near future, Khe Ro Nature Reserve will be an ideal eco-tourism site.
